Liposuction does little to tightening skin, but allows for reducing localized areas of fat by suctioning. It works especially well for those who don't have a lot of extra skin or sagging body parts. For those types of problems there are other surgical options such as inner thigh lifts and tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) that will remove excess skin as well as reduce size. There is a trade-off with tucks and lifts, as they will always leave some type of scar where the excess skin was removed.

Generally speaking, liposuction will make your body appear thinner, whereas a tummy tuck or a lift will make it appear younger... with scars.

You will be assessing three characteristics: skin, fat, and inner girdle.


Skin
Do not tighten your muscles and pinch the skin of your lower abdomen.
See if you can get the skin near your belly button to meet the skin near your pubic hair.
If so, you have significantly loose skin.

Fat
Tighten your abdominal muscles by trying to flatten your tummy
while pinching your skin and fat. If you can gather more than a fistful,
you likely have excess fat.

Inner Girdle
Stand with your side view toward the mirror and tighten your abdomen.
To see the effects of your inner girdle on the appearance of your abdomen,
relax and then tighten your tummy muscles.
The observable difference between a relaxed abdomen and a tightened abdomen reveals
the degree of weakness in your abdominal fascia.
If there is a considerable difference, you likely have a significant laxity of your fascia.
This is an essential point. If you have a loose inner girdle, tightening it
with a 'tummy tuck' or abdominoplasty would bring more improvement.
